This month it’s luna who’s scribbled
upon the moon-ribbed skin above

my belly flesh.
Her egg never realising foetal pink,
she slides into January’s

wet grave - a half ghost

predecessor to the next new hope
to grope wistfully at its probability
for awhile before falling

into the wilting pages
of the egg register.
Yesterday the doctor gave us
our test results.

Today we pretend not to notice
the calendar or the bedroom door

and eat our supper in silence.
